Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza have invested £5m in a technology upgrade throughout 64 UK hotels, in time for the World Cup.
The investment has seen the installation of 50in LG High Definition TV screens throughout the hotels’ lounges and restaurants for the football tournament. Over the next 12 months, 32in flat-screen LG TVs will be introduced into all bedrooms, 37in High Definition LG TVs into all suites and high-speed internet access across all properties.
However, it’s not yet known whether the UK establishments have finally taken note of how their North American cousins do it and are offering the internet service free, or whether it will be charged.
“With the fever building up to the games, our new big-screen TVs will let guests and fans at Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn hotels across the country experience the big match atmosphere,” said Christopher Rawstron, vice-president of operations at Holiday Inn.
The technology investment coincides with the hotels’ launch of a South African food and beverage promotion called Extra Time, which will run from 11 June to 11 July.
Guests and non-hotel guests will have the chance to win thousands of prizes, including a South African safari, through scratch and win cards with every purchase. Meanwhile, anyone wishing to escape the football can get 20% off selected body treatments, with members able to take along a friend for free.
